Woman’s has chosen to implement Epic as our new electronic health record (EHR) because it is the gold standard in healthcare and will enhance the way we provide care. Transitioning to Epic will create a more seamless experience for clinicians and patients, while engaging patients in their care at a greater level through the MyChart patient portal. Epic is the only EHR on the market that was originally designed as a patient-centered platform, which fits in line with our mission of always putting women and infants first in all that we do.

Why Epic?

The Woman’s Board of Directors voted in July 2022 to implement Epic based on overwhelming feedback from clinicians and various end users who recognize the positive impacts it has had on hospitals and health systems that made the transition. Implementing Epic, however, is much more than just adding a new software program. This is an operational tool that will enhance the level of care we deliver to our community by:

  • Improving patient engagement and empowering patients in their healthcare
  • Supporting partnerships and facilitating collaboration
  • Enhancing patient and physician communication
  • Streamlining workflows and increasing efficiency

The process to implement Epic will take more than a year to complete, and we are set to go live on February 1, 2024. Advisory councils and workgroups made up of leaders and subject matter experts across the organization will participate in workgroups and make decisions about our system build. The Epic project team will work closely with these groups to ensure our system meets the needs of end users across the organization.

This is a very fast-paced and high-intensity project that will touch everyone in our organization and all those we care for. It is the single biggest project for Woman’s since moving to the new campus 10 years ago.
