On Friday, the Epic team held a kickoff event to officially begin our “Epic Adventure.” This will be our theme throughout this Epic implementation project, as we all journey together toward a new electronic health record (EHR) that allows an integrated experience for both clinicians and patients. More than 300 million patients have a current electronic record in Epic, with more hospitals and health systems continuing to transition to the platform each year.

Epic implementation is broken down into five phases:

  • Phase 0: Pre-Work
  • Phase 1: Workflow Walkthrough and Configuration
  • Phase 2: System and User Readiness
  • Phase 3: Training and Go-Live
  • Phase 4: Post-Live and Optimization

We are currently in the preparation phase of our journey, also referred to as Phase 0. Just as you would need to research your destination, plan an itinerary, and select your companions for travel, we are busy laying the groundwork for a successful Epic implementation. We are collecting relevant data, forming teams and workgroups, and making plans for end-user training. Epic project team members will receive their certifications during this phase, and we’ll look at our existing hardware and identify new equipment that will be needed throughout the project. Phase 0 is expected to last through February 2023.
